See the Difference in Post-Op Care

Many LASIK centers step back after surgery – we step closer, with direct surgeon access, included follow-ups, and round-the-clock support.

Post-Op Consultation with Dr Moskowitz after Laser Vision Correction

When people shop for LASIK – or vision correction generally – they often focus on price, the reputation of the surgeon or surgery center, and the safety of the surgery itself.

But another important (and usually overlooked) component is the care you receive after the procedure.

I think this is one of the areas where our practice – and other boutique, physician-owned and operated practices – truly distinguishes itself. For many LASIK centers in NYC, post-op care can feel minimal (if not non-existent) and incur additional costs.

With us, it’s a full-service, always-available, patient-first experience. In this post, we’ll look at what separates our post-op care from most LASIK practices in the city, with examples and comparisons, so you know what you should expect when choosing where to have your vision corrected.

What “Typical Post-Op Care” Looks Like at Larger Centers

  • You might get a follow-up appointment scheduled, but often with limited availability – maybe with a nurse or tech, not always the same doctor.

  • If you have an issue (pain, haze, dry spots, infection, blurred vision), getting in for an extra appointment can be hard. Sometimes there’s a wait of days.

  • Communication tends to drop off once surgery is done – you might have limited avenues to reach someone (office hours), not direct access to the surgeon.

  • Additional visits or addressing complications may incur extra charges – not always in the fee you were originally quoted.

  • Overall, it can feel like after you pay, you’re largely “on your own” unless something goes obviously wrong.

How Our Post-Op Care Is Different

  • All-Inclusive in the Price
Everything is included: the surgery, follow-ups, and any post-op care needed. No hidden fees for addressing complications or scheduling additional appointments.

  • The Surgeon (myself) Personally Remains Available

    • I personally reach out after surgery – phone calls, texts.

    • We remain responsive if questions come up. Patients often highlight how quickly they get a call or text back.

  • Proactive Follow-Ups & Check-Ins
Not just a single appointment a week or two later. We check in personally at multiple times, sometimes unexpectedly (holidays, weekends) just to see how recovery is going.

  • Transparency & Patient Education

    • Before surgery, we make sure patients are well-informed about what to expect, what challenges or discomforts there might be.

    • During recovery, if issues arise (for example with drops or pharmacy access), we help personally to make sure there are no unnecessary delays.

  • High Responsiveness & Empathy
Reviews consistently emphasize our bedside manner, willingness to take time, reassuring patients, and alleviating their worries. We don’t rush patients off – we make sure they feel safe, heard, and supported.

Why It Matters

The difference in post-op care isn’t just about comfort – it has real consequences:

  • Faster & better healing when patients feel comfortable asking questions early on and get help immediately rather than waiting.

  • Lower risk of complications when small issues are addressed promptly.

  • Peace of mind: vision correction is a big decision. Knowing your doctor is available by text or phone, and that everything is included, greatly reduces stress.

  • Cost transparency: avoiding surprise fees means patients can focus on healing, not logistics or finances.

Real-World Testimonials

Here are a few quotes about ASA surgery post-op care from my patients that illustrate this difference:

“After the procedure Dr. Moskowitz checked in with me regularly to see how my eyes were recovering and gave me his personal number to call or text if I had any issues, which was incredibly reassuring.”

“My ASA experience was fantastic. He was extremely patient with me and walked me through every step – making himself available by phone and text at any time with questions. … He continued to call and check in during my recovery.”

“Whenever I have questions post surgery, he always responds quickly through texts and phones.”

“Will answer all of your questions, call you to check in on you personally after your procedure, was always there to address any concerns and make sure you are doing well.”

“After my operation, I had 3 or 4 follow-up appointments to check that my recovery was on the right track and that I was following the prescribed instructions.”

“Dr. Moskowitz took the time to explain and answered all my questions without feeling rushed. The procedure was seamless and got calls post-surgery daily by the doctor himself. I now have perfect vision with no glare or halo’s.”

“The procedure went without a hitch and he's been very helpful & responsive since in the post-op care and follow ups. 100% recommend.”

A Night & Day Difference in Post-Op Treatment

Feature Our Practice Larger LASIK / Vision Centers
Pricing / What’s Included All follow-ups, complications, and communications are included. Often a base price – additional visits or issues may cost extra.
Surgeon Accessibility Dr. Moskowitz remains available via phone and text – proactive personal check-ins. Access after surgery is often indirect – surgeon may not respond personally.
Scheduling of Follow-Ups Flexible, more frequent, doctor-led check-ins. Standard slots – extra appointments can be harder to secure quickly.
Patient Communication & Support Proactive, empathetic support – clear education and help with drops/pharmacy. Often limited to standard post-op instructions – less individualized.
Stress / Peace of Mind High – you feel looked after. Lower – many patients feel left to manage uncertainty.

What to Look For When Choosing a LASIK / Vision Correction Center

When you are shopping around, these are red flags & green flags to help you evaluate the post-op care you’ll get:

Green Flags (things you want to see):

  • Surgeon remains involved – not “hands everything off after surgery.”

  • Direct lines of communication (text/phone) with the doctor.

  • Clear policy: follow-ups and extra visits included in the price.

  • Testimonials that specifically mention post-op care and support.

  • Transparent pre-surgery education about what to expect.

Red Flags (things you might steer away from):

  • Very low cost with vague “add-ons” for follow-ups or “if there’s a problem.”

  • Surgeon not involved in follow-ups.

  • Hard to get an appointment if something feels off.

  • Reviews that say patients felt abandoned after surgery.

What to Do Next

Vision correction is transformative, but how you heal afterward can make all the difference.

At our practice, the post-operative care isn’t an afterthought. It’s baked into the experience: the surgeon remains involved, communication stays open, follow-ups are proactive and compassionate, and there are no surprise costs. Compare that with many larger centers, where the patient often feels like the service ends when the surgery does.

If you’re considering vision correction, choose the practice where healing matters just as much as the surgery.
